Kumu Hula Kanoelani Galiza
Love and praises to my Lord Jesus Christ.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai'i, I learned hula at a young age. My formal training and studies in the Hawaiian Culture, Language, Hula,Tahitian and New Zealand Maori dances are accredited to my Na Kumu Hula (teachers). I have studied under the direction of many famous Na Kumu Hula in Hawai'i for the past 30 years. Since 1980, I entered numerous competitions, such as the famous and prestigious "Merrie Monarch Hula Festival" (Hilo, Hawaii), Kona Hula Festival, Kamehameha Hula Festival, Las Vegas Hula Festival and California Hula Festival. I also studied two years of Modern Dance at Leeward Community College in Honolulu and performed at Leeward Community CollegeTheater many times.

January 1994, My husband Joaquin Galiza and I moved to Washington State. In October of that year,I opened
"Hula Halau 'O Kealaakua Naniloa Mana'oakamai."

January 2002, I was vice president and in August of 2003, I was elected president of The Pacific Northwest Ka 'Ohana Aloha Hula Festival. The festival was created to preserve, educate and perpetuate the celebration of Hawaiian, Native Polynesian and Native American cultures. My main focus along with the Ka 'Ohana board members was to teach our children the dance, the language and the history of their ancestry. The Ka 'Ohana Aloha (the love of family) Hula Festival encompasses the spirit to create a family experience with Aloha (Love). In August 2003, the Second Annual Pacific Northwest Ka 'Ohana Aloha Hula Festival was a huge success.

October of 2002 my Alaka'i, Makanaalohano'eau Freitas and I opened "Hula Halau 'O Kealaakua Naniloa Mana'oakamai 'Elua," in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

June 2006, my Alaka'i Nani Torgerson and I were invited to the "Festival Polynesia/Pacific Rim" in Canada, as main adjudicators. I received recognition for my experience and expertise in the Hawaiian and Polynesian Culture,
Dance Technique,
Language, Music and
